Hello Parents and Families,
Thank you for your continued support this school year. We have many exciting events coming up in the next two weeks. This Friday, October 7th, will be the Fun Run! Next week, October 10th - 14th, is our Big Zoo Lesson! Thank you to everyone who can volunteer. We are still in need of a few chaperones for Friday afternoon from 12:45-2:15. During that time, the students will be teaching Junior Docent Lessons to their classmates about their animals! We find that the more adults, the better for these lessons.

Last week, the students watched a slideshow about the animals at Potter Park Zoo and each of them picked the top 5 animals that they would like to learn more about during the BZL. This week, the students will find out which animal they will study at the BZL. We ask that the students start doing research on their animal in lieu of homework the during the week of the BZL (October 10th-14th).
Throughout the BZL and for the next several months, the students will be working on an informational text piece that they will turn into a published book later in the year. It is very important that the students have enough information to publish their book! Here are some ways that the students can research and find more information on their animal:
- go to the library,
- look online and copy notes from kid friendly websites, and
- look back at their journal from the BZL.
In preparation for the BZL, this week in Science, we will be observing a bunny. During these observations, we will be building our zoological vocabulary to help us sketch the habitat and behavioral characteristics of the bunny.
We are looking forward to a great week at the zoo and can’t wait for the BZL week to arrive.
Thank you for your support,
Mrs. Talamonti-Burgee
